It has come to our attention that some members of your organization are concerned with one of Intuit's recent TV advertisements for TurboTax that ran during the TV program 'Medium.' We appreciate the point of view your members have expressed, just as we recognize the right for all individuals to express and hold various opinions on a host of issues and positions.
Specific to the views noted by some of your members, Intuit did NOT purchase this specific advertising space in the program referenced and neither did our advertising agency. As part of overall advertising media buys, networks provide 'make good' placements which are their own programming decisions when an ad does not run in a purchased schedule time slot. The networks have the ability to insert 'make good' advertisements based on advertising space availability without contacting the advertiser or the ad agency. This is exactly what happened in this specific situation.
We have requested that any similar 'make good' opportunities, provided by networks, be reviewed with the appropriate individuals at Intuit, and/ or our advertising agency, prior to airing.
We hope you will factually communicate this to any of your members and immediately correct the current information on your Web site so it is accurate. Should you desire to publish, print or post this e-mail, it may only be done so in its entirety.
